By Talon "That guy doesn't know the half of it." Robyn commented as she switched the radio off. "Ya, its paranoid losers like that who give us genuine freaks a bad name" Talon said as he roused from slumber in the back seat. "What State are we in now?" he asked. "You mean other than denial?" Nikki and Riley both contributed. "I'm not sure..." Robyn said, "But we'll get where we're going eventually." "And where exactly is that, this time?" he wondered, and then nodded off back to sleep when he couldn't get a definitive answer. He always fell asleep when forced to travel by mundane means. "What the...?!" he exclaimed as he was forcefully awakened not long later. Robyn was an excellent driver, and the Demon was a more than excellent car, but there was some serious turbulence going on in the back seat, it seemed. Talon peered between the occupants of the front seat to look up the road ahead. There seemed to be a fuel tanker burning in the middle of the highway, but that didn't explain the... Whunk! Something heavy landed on the roof of the car, and Robyn spun them through another set of evasive manouvers. "Ah, hell." Riley said. "Those can't really be...?" Nikki mused. "Damn bugs." Robyn growled. The Demon growled it's own challenge as Robyn pressed the accelerator to the floor and aimed straight for the giant spider that leapt into the middle of the road. She spun the car to a halt just short of the burning truck, and they all surveyed the trail of thick green slime spread out behind them. "Oh, this is way too cool!" Talon exclaimed with a feral grin. It didn't take them long to decide that there was more than likely an isolated all-american down-on-its-luck small town nearby that was being overrun by the results of a freak industrial accident who's only hope for survival was the local hero figure who planned to jumpstart the local economy and some bumbling law enforcement agents. "What the heck, who wants to go hunting?" Robyn asked, as she caught the glimmer of hope that Talon was trying to suppress. "Oh, could we really? Please?" he breathed. The others chuckled as they began pulling an assortment of weaponry from various places of concealment. It took him half a moment to realize that they were serious about going hunting. "Oh...joy!" he squealed as he wiggled around in his seat to reach into his back pocket, and then produced weaponry of his own. Robyn aimed the car towards town as Riley warily eyed the items piled in Talon's lap. An odd, boxy looking device with what looked suspiciously like a gun barrel poking out of one end and...a chainsaw. "That looks messy." She commented as Talon reached under his seat and withdrew an even nastier looking combat shotgun, which he leaned over the front seat and placed within easy reach for Robyn. "What, this?" he said, picking up the boxy object. "It's a .50 calibre bullpupped assault rifle." he explained as he slapped a magazine loaded with jacketed hollow points into the top of it, and a canister that was clearly marked as highly flammable into the bottom of the weapon. "With my own special modifications, of course." He snapped the bolt once, and checked the electronic spark on the under-barrel flame thrower as he flashed her an evil grin. They pulled into the town of Prosperity just as dusk was settling into night, and Robyn pulled the Demon into the first empty parking spot she found. "Well, if things follow the usual plot, it should start to get exciting around here any time now." Nikki mused as they exited the car and stretched. Her words were met with what sounded like the beginnings of widespread panic from a few streets away. "Right on cue." the four said in unison, giggled once, and then trotted off looking for trouble. The townsfolk were doing a good impersonation of chaos incarnate as they fled in terror. Talon looked on with open fascination as a dark haired woman with two kids in tow hefted a shotgun of her own and obliterated the large arachnid that leapt down to confront her. "She's kinda hot..." he mumbled as he admired the way she worked the slide on her weapon, and then began herding the townsfolk like sheep towards a tacky ultra-modern style shopping mall. Ignoring the civilians, he turned his attention back to the critters that were now swarming the streets. Robyn had already waded in, shooting indiscriminately at anything with more than four legs as she braced the shotgun against her left forearm so that she could keep a firm grip on the short elven sword she clutched in her left hand. Nikki was close behind her, hewing the limbs from any spiders that came in too close with her elven long sword. Riley was off by herself evading phantom players as she slapped a hapless spider from one end of the street to the other with a hockey stick. He didn't remember Keahi, Claymore, or Fritters being in the car with them, but there they were enjoying the carnage as well. Claymore launched an RPG down the street into a seething mass of fangs and hairy legs. Fritters ducked behind a car just in time to avoid the rain of green goo that rained down from the ensuing explosion, and Keahi neatly caught the spider that tried to pounce on her by it's forelegs. She held it at arms length for a moment, and then gave a sharp tug downwards. It chittered like an angry squirrel, and then whimpered like a small dog as its carapace split open and doused the assassin with thick green fluid. "Ugh!" she sputtered, and then fired a bolt from her fingertips that fried another would be assailant as she gave up on the hand-to-hand idea. Talon was just deciding on his first target as something heavy, and bristly, landed on his back. "Ack! Get it off, get it off!" he chorused as he danced madly through the street slapping awkwardly at his own back. He sideswiped a signpost and scraped the thing loose just in time to be jumped by two more. "Grrr." he stated in almost cartoon manner as he swept upwards with the chainsaw. Viscous goo flew everywhere, along with dismembered limbs. "Aarg." he finished, as the two truncated arachnids twitched and spasmed on the pavement. Thunder filled the street as Talon poured half a kilo of hyper velocity lead into what was left of the critters. "You know," he said as he hefted the rifle up under his arm, "J had better appreciate all that we're going through just to help him on this mission!" |
